West Ham United have been dealt with a sickness bug sweeping through the squad ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester United.
The Hammers saw captain Declan Rice, centre-back Nayef Aguerd and midfielder Tomas Soucek all withdraw from the squad just hours before West Ham’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City on Wednesday night, with manager David Moyes naming just 18 senior players for the game. The same illness also affected one member of staff ahead of the game.
While all three have trained on Friday ahead of facing Man United on Sunday, Moyes did confirm that one player was sent home from training on Friday morning, while another was also struggling with the illness.

West Ham have posted a short training video on their Twitter account ahead of the game on Sunday, where 19 senior players were pictured in the session.
Right-back Vladimir Coufal (hamstring), centre-back Kurt Zouma (ankle) and striker Gianluca Scamacca (knee) were all absent as expected due to injuries, leaving just one senior player not pictured and unaccounted for,
Winger Maxwel Cornet was not shown in the session, although it does not mean that he was not in the session. However, he did post on his Instagram story on Friday morning, at a similar time to the training session, thanking teammate Zouma and his partner for buying his son a birthday present.
Speaking on the issue in his pre-match press conference, Moyes said: “We’ve got a couple of other people who have [been]. One other player was sent home this morning and we’ve got another one who just said he didn’t feel so good. We’ve just got to hope that we can contain it.”
