Alexander Isak finally scored his first Premier League goal for Liverpool as they beat West Ham 2-0 on Sunday. It was a much-needed win for the reeling Reds to ease the mounting pressure on manager Arne Slot after an abysmal run of nine defeats from their last 12 matches across all competitions, including last weekend’s Anfield embarrassment against Nottingham Forest and the midweek Champions League humiliation at home to PSV Eindhoven.
But Liverpool were much improved on an emotional day at the London Stadium, where West Ham paid heartfelt tribute to late club icon Billy Bonds following his death at the age of 79. The returning Florian Wirtz led the charge in a quiet first half after replacing the benched Mohamed Salah, who did not come on, with Alphonse Areola making a flurry of solid saves.
However, British record signing Isak broke his goal duck by rifling into the bottom corner on the hour mark, with Lucas Paqueta later sent off for arguing with referee Darren England, picking up two quick-fire yellow cards. Jarrod Bowen went close to an equaliser as the spirited 10 men pushed hard, until Cody Gakpo netted in stoppage time. Follow West Ham vs Liverpool live below!

Nuno will be furious with Paqueta for that crazy sending off.

The closest West Ham have come all afternoon.
West Ham 0-1 Liverpool
15:49 , George Flood82 mins: Absolutely crazy from Paqueta, who is incensed by the referee giving a foul and lets Darren England know all about it - leading to a yellow card.
Bowen and Fernandes both try to drag him away but he won’t give it up and eventually receives a second caution to leave West Ham down to 10 men chasing an equaliser in the final minutes.
He was only just back from a ban but will now miss Thursday night’s trip to Manchester United too.
He sarcastically applauds and now wants to row with the fourth official. Someone get him off the pitch!
West Ham 0-1 Liverpool
15:43 , George Flood79 mins: An immediate chance for Fullkrug as he steers a pinpoint cross from the right wide at the front post.
Much more urgency about West Ham now, approaching the final 10 minutes.

It’s a straight swap up front as Wilson is replaced by Fullkrug.
West Ham 0-1 Liverpool
15:40 , George Flood75 mins: Jones - who certainly didn’t hold back on Liverpool’s Champions League humiliation by PSV Eindhoven in midweek - is quickly into the thick of the action as he combines well with fellow substitute Ekitike, who is just leaning back a touch as he bends a shot wide of the far post.
West Ham 0-1 Liverpool

Wirtz’s impressive outing is over as he makes way for Jones.

Potts’ latest delivery from the left is headed away emphatically.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
15:18 , George Flood53 mins: More encouraging signs for West Ham now with the influential Paqueta getting on the ball plenty and Van Dijk forced to concede a corner.
It’s cleared, but the hosts are sustaining some pressure at last and have a throw-in on the far side.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
15:15 , George Flood51 mins: That’s a wicked early ball into the Liverpool box from Diouf, with Alisson batting it down before gathering it in at the second attempt under little pressure.

Ekitike, Chiesa and Ngumoha are the other attacking options that Slot has in reserve.

West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
15:08 , George FloodBack underway at the London Stadium.
No changes from either manager at the break.
Let’s hope for a livelier second half.
Carragher hails first-half display from Wirtz
15:05 , George FloodHigh praise indeed from Jamie Carragher for Florian Wirtz on Sky Sports.
He calls that first half the best 45 minutes that the £116m summer signing has had in a Liverpool shirt so far.
Carragher calls Wirtz the best player on the pitch by a long way.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:55 , George FloodHalf-time
Not a first half that will live particularly long in the memory.
Liverpool have been better with Wirtz impressing, but Areola saved from both the German and Isak, whose wait for a first Premier League goal for the Reds goes on.
Not much at all to shout about going forward for West Ham.
A bit of a sleepy contest so far.

West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:52 , George Flood46 mins: Into one minute of added time.
Paqueta does well to release Diouf, who winds up earning a late first-half corner as he then tries to gee up a quiet crowd.
Potts’ delivery from the left intended for Mavropanos is seen off at the back post, inviting the half-time whistle.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:50 , George Flood44 mins: West Ham are still offering virtually nothing in attack as we approach half-time at the London Stadium.
A chance to deliver a deep free-kick into the box from around halfway is too easily negated by Liverpool.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:49 , George Flood42 mins: A crucial diving touch from Areola prevents Gomez’s right-wing cross from reaching Isak, who would likely have had a tap-in behind Mavropanos.
A good half this from the West Ham ‘keeper as he keeps summer signing Mads Hermansen out of the team.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:46 , George Flood39 mins: A simple long ball pumped up from the Liverpool defence for Gakpo has West Ham and particularly Mavropanos in a panic.
Wan-Bissaka’s desperate lunging touch inadvertently tees up Wirtz, whose scuffed low effort is held by Areola.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:44 , George Flood37 mins: A painful blow for Van Dijk as he cops an accidental arm to the throat from Wilson as the West Ham striker tried to position himself to receive the ball in front of the Liverpool captain, who is quickly back to his feet.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:42 , George Flood34 mins: West Ham are trying to apply some pressure on what has been an abysmal Liverpool defence in recent weeks, led by skipper Bowen.
But it’s all a bit subdued and disjointed in attack, with Van Dijk and particularly the oft-criticised Konate not being unduly troubled at the moment.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:38 , George Flood30 mins: Some promising signs for both sides as we tick past the half-hour mark at the London Stadium.
Wirtz has been at the heart of everything good done by improved Liverpool so far, creating another opening for Gakpo in transition.
But the Dutchman gets his feet in a muddle inside the box and that allows Todibo to avert the danger.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:35 , George Flood28 mins: An audible yelp from Wirtz as he’s caught late by Magassa.

14:34 , George Flood25 mins: A promising West Ham move involving Bowen is halted before Liverpool counter quickly through Isak, who squares to Gakpo.
Liverpool end up giving away a pressure-relieving free-kick.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:31 , George Flood24 mins: That’s a really risky sliding challenge from Magassa on Gravenberch just outside the West Ham box.
Liverpool question if that was a penalty potentially, but replays show the West Ham midfielder got the slightest of touches on the ball.
It would have been a free-kick anyway.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:28 , George Flood20 mins: Areola denies Isak from close range after Gakpo had nodded across a stood-up delivery to the back post.
The best chance of the game so far by a long way.
Big save from Areola.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:26 , George Flood18 mins: Lovely vision and a great pass from Fernandes to release Wilson, who does well to earn West Ham another corner off the much-criticised Konate.
It’s a dangerous delivery from the left, but centre-backs Todibo and Mavropanos both made their runs too early and ended up ahead of the ball.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:22 , George Flood15 mins: Plenty of possession for Liverpool in this opening quarter of an hour but they aren’t doing much with it as things stand.
Kerkez gets a bit of luck down the left and Wirtz’s low, deflected cross is turned behind by Diouf with Isak lurking.
Van Dijk gets a run on his man from the subsequent corner but it’s a difficult header that was never troubling Areola.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:18 , George Flood10 mins: Alisson clatters painfully into his own team-mate in Gomez as he punches away a dangerous right-wing cross from Wan-Bissaka intended for the head of Paqueta.
West Ham are frustrated as their gathering momentum is halted by the referee immediately blowing his whistle for the Liverpool goalkeeper to receive treatment.
He looks fine to continue as the boos rain down from the stands.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:16 , George Flood8 mins: An opening West Ham corner comes to nothing before Liverpool look to get forward again, but the home defence stand firm.
West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
14:13 , George Flood4 mins: A lively start in east London including an early knock for Szoboszlai.
Liverpool are trying to assert some authority from the outset but Isak fires well wide.
More applause in the fourth minute for West Ham’s legendary No4 in Bonds.

Billy Bonds: Tributes pour in for 'one of English football's greatest competitors'
13:56 , George FloodWest Ham have led the tributes to “lion-hearted leader” Billy Bonds following the club legend’s death on Sunday, writes Sam Tabuteau.
Bonds is the Hammers’ all-time record appearance-holder, playing 799 games during 21 seasons at the club.
As captain, he led West Ham to FA Cup glory in 1974 and 1980.
Bonds became West Ham manager in 1990, leading them to promotion to the First Division in 1991 and the Premier League in 1993.
In a heartfelt statement confirming the news, West Ham hailed their “courageous, inspirational, lion-hearted leader” and “one of the greatest competitors English football has ever seen”.

Paqueta returns as West Ham make three changes
13:29 , George FloodWest Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo, meanwhile, makes three changes to the team that lost a two-goal first-half lead to draw at Bournemouth last weekend.
Lucas Paqueta is back from suspension, while Konstantinos Mavropanos comes into defence and summer signing Soungoutou Magassa is added to the midfield.
Dropping to the bench are Igor Julio, Max Kilman and Luis Guilherme in an obvious change of shape from Nuno.

Slot benches Salah as Alisson, Gomez, Wirtz and Isak all start
13:23 , George FloodSo the headline team news is obviously the under-fire Arne Slot choosing to drop the out-of-form Mohamed Salah to the bench as one of four changes as he bids to halt Liverpool’s shocking run of form.
Florian Wirtz takes his place in attack having recovered from injury, with Alexander Isak also taking over from Hugo Ekitike.
Alisson has recovered from illness to replace Giorgi Mamardashvili in goal, while Joe Gomez makes his first Premier League start of the season at right-back as Curtis Jones drops out and with Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong both injured.

Billy Bonds obituary: Skilled hardman ruled West Ham's midfield for 20 years
12:56 , George FloodThe warning could not have been any clearer: "Six foot two, eyes of blue, Billy Bonds is after you."
Bonds, who has died aged 79, was West Ham's former captain, defender, midfielder, coach, manager and record-appearance holder.
With his sinewy frame, long hair, straggly beard and socks rolled down around his ankles, Bonds ruled the centre of the pitch at Upton Park for the best part of 20 years.
The fans whose terrace chant was dedicated to their hardman skipper knew it, and they made sure the opposition knew it as well.

West Ham to pay tribute to late legend Billy Bonds
12:25 , George FloodWest Ham have paid heartfelt tribute to their “courageous, inspirational, lion-hearted leader” in Billy Bonds, whom they called “one of the greatest competitors English football has ever seen”.
The club have confirmed that a period of appreciation to honour their former long-serving player, captain, coach and manager will be held ahead of today’s game against Liverpool.
A full tribute will then take place before their next home match against Aston Villa on December 14.
West Ham say further tributes will also come through their official club channels in the coming days.
The club said: “Never one to crave the limelight, he was universally loved, respected and admired by his team-mates, players and supporters, who will forever consider themselves ‘Billy Bonds’s Claret and Blue Army’.”
It is with deep sadness and the heaviest of hearts that West Ham United announces the passing this morning of legendary player, coach and manager, Billy Bonds MBE.

Rest in peace Billy, our courageous, inspirational, lion-hearted leader.
West Ham icon Billy Bonds dies aged 79
12:13 , George FloodSome very sad news to bring you ahead of today’s game.
West Ham legend, and former captain and manager, Billy Bonds has died at the age of 79.
Bonds made 799 appearances for the Hammers during a 21-year stint as their longest-serving player between 1967-88, winning two FA Cups and the old Second Division.
He later managed West Ham between 1990-94, winning the Second Division and later promotion to the newly-formed Premier League.
“We are heartbroken to announce that we lost our beloved Dad today,” Bonds’ family said in a statement.
“He was devoted to his family and was the most kind, loyal, selfless, and loving person.
"Dad loved West Ham United and its wonderful supporters with all his heart and treasured every moment of his time at the club.
"He will always be in our hearts and eternally missed. We take comfort knowing that his legacy will live on forever."

Score prediction
11:55 , Alex YoungGiven the form Liverpool are in, Nuno Espirito Santo is perhaps the last person Arne Slot will have wanted to be standing across from him in the dugout.
The Dutchman did not win any of his meetings against Nuno when the Portuguese tactician was in charge of Nottingham Forest last season and it’s hard to make a case for it being third time lucky.
Draw, 2-2.
Early West Ham team news
11:50 , Alex YoungIn a boost for West Ham, Crysencio Summerville is expected to return to training this week.
The Dutch winger has been dealing with a calf strain and was not included in the squad for the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth, but he is expected to be in contention for the visit of Liverpool.
Elsewhere, Lucas Paqueta is available after serving a one-game suspension. Striker Niclas Fullkrug still out with a thigh injury which means Callum Wilson could lead the line after his brace at the Vitality Stadium.

Early Liverpool team news
11:45 , Alex YoungLiverpool hope to welcome Florian Wirtz back from injury today, after the £116m summer signing sat out home defeats to Nottingham Forest and PSV Eindhoven with a knock sustained while playing for Germany during the international break.
Hugo Ekitike is a doubt for the trip to east London after limping off just after the hour mark against PSV in midweek with a back problem.
Alisson Becker, who returned from injury against Forest last weekend, missed the Champions League defeat on Wednesday night through illness but is expected to be available for selection against the Hammers.
Curtis Jones may be asked to operate at right-back once again with Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley out injured in addition to Joe Gomez being out of favour.
With Slot’s options in midfield and in attack rather limited, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah will likely all start against West Ham despite subdued showings in midweek.
Up front, Alexander Isak is likely to come in for Ekitike as the club’s record signing bids to get off the mark in the Premier League this season.
