West Ham United table £32.5m bid for Liverpool 'transfer target' Amadou Onana

Liverpool appear unlikely to make any further summer signings after the arrivals of striker Darwin Nunez, attacker Fabio Carvalho and right-back Calvin Ramsay. That's despite there remaining a suggestion that Jurgen Klopp could do with adding another option in midfield.

Not that the Reds boss himself agrees. Only last week, Klopp said : "I don’t think something will happen in midfield, but you never know. If somebody comes to you and says ‘I want to go...' Nobody came to me yet, but if that happens then we have to talk [about] new [players]. But if the situation stays like it is, then tell me why?

"I don’t understand. I do not understand. People told me about this discussion, but the last thing that would have crossed my mind is that we have to [sign a midfielder]."

But despite that, Liverpool do continue to be linked with new additions in the centre of the park. The name of Sporting CP and Portugal star Matheus Nunes is heavily doing the rounds. But so, too, is Amadou Onana.

The 20-year-old new Belgium international has just enjoyed an excellent first season in Ligue 1 with Lille and he has been linked to a number of Premier League clubs, including Everton.

And Liverpool. The Athletic put some weight behind the rumour when, in an article looking at Nottingham Forest transfers, they claimed that Klopp's side, along with West Ham United, Arsenal and Newcastle United, are all admirers of one of the Premier League new boys' prime targets.

And it now looks like West Ham have made the first move. The Daily Mail report that the Hammers have tabled a £32.5m bid for Onana, who stands at 6ft 5in.

The report adds that West Ham boss David Moyes initially thought the player would be beyond his club's reach. But Lille, however, are now weighing up the offer.
