West Ham United grab late draw with Newcastle after Isak double

NEW DELHI: West Ham United and Newcastle United played to a thrilling 2-2 draw in the Premier League clash in London on Sunday. The match featured a late 89th-minute equaliser by Mohammed Kudus, denying the visitors three points after Alexander Isak's quick-fire double.

West Ham took the lead in the eighth minute when Emerson received a long ball, capitalizing on Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope's out-of-position play. Emerson then set up Tomas Soucek for an easy tap-in.

However, in the second half, Newcastle improved their performance. Dan Burn's header was saved by West Ham's goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, and Isak capitalised on a set-piece opportunity to score near the six-yard box. Kieran Trippier's precise cross allowed Isak to net his second goal in quick succession.

Isak came close to completing a hat-trick but saw his shot from a tight angle hit the post, with Nayef Aguerd clearing it for a corner.

With time running out, West Ham's manager David Moyes substituted Soucek with Kudus. In the dying moments of the game, Kudus scored his first league goal by connecting with Vladimir Coufal's pass and firing a low shot from the edge of the box.

As a result of this draw, West Ham is currently in seventh place in the Premier League table with 14 points from eight games, while Newcastle is in eighth place, trailing by just one point.
