West Ham second half player ratings: Harrison Ashby stars in Ipswich Town victory

West Ham recorded a 2-1 victory during their pre-season friendly against League One side Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Kurt Zouma opened the scoring in the first half before the Hammers doubled their lead shortly after the hour mark through Daniel Chesters. Ipswich got a goal back through Kane Vincent-Young, but it proved to be no more than a consolation.

Here is how football.london's West Ham United writer Jonty Colman rated the Hammers’ players in the second half.

Lukasz Fabianski

Polish stopper Lukasz Fabianski had a quiet first half and largely had just regulation saves to make, will have been disappointed to concede to one of Ipswich's only threatening chances of the second half. Did, however, keep out one late header to help seal victory. 6

Harrison Ashby (Star man)

A solid first half from Harrison Ashby led to an excellent display after the break. He first played Michail Antonio through on goal with a delicious through ball down the right wing where the Jamaican international really should have done better in front of goal before his well-struck long shot minutes later led to Chester giving West Ham a 2-0 lead. Really encouraging signs for David Moyes to take from his showing. 8

Kurt Zouma

Following his opening goal in the first half, Zouma's defensive qualities were needed much more in the second half, being forced into a number of blocks and challenges at key moments to keep out a spirited Ipswich in the closing phases. 7

Aji Alese

After a solid first half showing, Aji Alese almost doubled his goal tally for pre-season, putting an effort wide. Tried to defend on the front foot at times but it almost led to him being out of position. Seemed to be less commanding in challenges and under pressure after the break. 5

Aaron Cresswell

Captain on the night Aaron Cresswell was among those playing against his former side. Flashed a free-kick over the bar early in the half before he was outjumped by Vincent-Young, whose header got Ipswich back into the game with 15 minutes to go. Attempted a volley shortly after Ipswich's goal that went wide. 5

Conor Coventry

West Ham's best player of the first half, Conor Coventry was quieter after the break. Did help to keep a high tempo in midfield as Ipswich looked to build possession on their home patch, but he can claim an assist of sorts after jumping over Chesters shot as the ball made its way in. Solid, just below his display from the first half. 6

Flynn Downes

A first half of mixed fortunes was more consistent from Flynn Downes on a West Ham debut that was against Ipswich, who he left after a 15-year association last year. Kept the ball ticking nicely and good for him to get 90 minutes under his belt. 6

Daniel Chesters

One of the quieter performers in the first half, Chesters came out of the traps in the second half and doubled David Moyes' side's lead just after the hour mark in bizarre circumstances. Following Ashby's effort that crashed off the post, Chesters converted at the second attempt with Coventry jumping over the ball as it went in, despite being in an offside position. Much improved from his first half display, showed more intent and end product. 7

Pablo Fornals

Spanish playmaker Pablo Fornals struggled to make an impact in the second half after some early promise, with one or two of his passes going stray. A really quiet performance after some bright sparks early on. 5

Armstrong Okoflex

Armstrong Okoflex showed more attacking intent and played with more confidence in the second half, having perhaps lacked a bit of end product before the break. Created a couple of threatening moments with low crosses from the left. 6

Michail Antonio

After impressing in the first half with little service or supply, including an assist for Zouma's opener, Antonio really should have doubled the lead after being put through on goal by Ashby's superb pass. Spent too long thinking what to do, leading to him losing the ball when he could and maybe should have scored. Ran through a few times but the ball seemed to be just out of reach on each occasion. 5

Came on with a minute to go in place of Okoflex on the left wing. N/A
