West Ham player ratings vs Eintracht Frankfurt: Aaron Cresswell unforgivable as Michail Antonio gives his all

West Ham’s Europa League journey came to an end as they were beaten 1-0 on the night and 2-0 on aggregate by Eintracht Frankfurt in their semi-final meeting on Thursday.

Here’s how David Moyes’ side rated at Deutsch Bank Park...

Alphonse Areola 6

No chance with the goal and did not have a great deal more testing work despite Frankfurt man advantage.

Vladimir Coufal 6

Came in as the only change from the side that started the first-leg and was solid enough against the dangerous Kostic.

Craig Dawson 6

Undone by Borre’s clever movement on goal after being sucked to the byline.

Kurt Zouma 7

Dragged across for the Frankfurt opener but could not get to Knauff quick enough. Defended stoically thereafter and had effort cleared off the line.

Aaron Cresswell 1

You had to feel for him as he trudged off but to be sent off twice in the same avoidable fashion in two huge European ties only weeks apart was unforgivable from a player of his experience.

Tomas Soucek 6

No surprise to see him still charging forward when the rest were spent but efforts proved in vain.

Declan Rice 6

Urged calm and grew frustrated with teammates’ lack of composure. Booked, seemingly for dissent, as annoyance bubbled over.

Pablo Fornals 5

Shunted wider than usual on the left of a four, from where he struggled to have an influence until being replaced.

Manuel Lanzini 5

Sacrificed early through no fault of his own after Cresswell red card.

Jarrod Bowen 7

Threatened with a couple of early dribbles and continued to be biggest danger throughout. Free-kick almost turned in by Zouma.

Michail Antonio 6

More isolated than ever, ran his socks of as usual but may have been wiser to conserve energy. Was visibly exhausted by the time Hammers went for broke late on.

Substitutes

Ben Johnson (Lanzini 22’) 6

Fit again and called into action quicker than he could have expected, though goal immediately came down his flank.

Said Benrahma (Fornals 74’)

Sent on as Hammers chased game late on but could not repeat lively first leg cameo.

Andriy Yarmolenko (Coufal 87’)
