West Ham player ratings: Jarrod Bowen stars as first half goals seal crucial win over Everton

West Ham United have moved out of the relegation zone after securing a 2-0 victory over Everton at the London Stadium.

Two first half goals from Jarrod Bowen sealed three points for the Hammers against the Toffees, moving them up to 15th in the table and a point clear of the relegation zone.

Here is how football.london’s West Ham United writer Jonty Colman rated the Hammers’ players against Everton.

Lukasz Fabianski

Had little to do in the first half, with Everton's only threats being half chances that were either wasted, or cut out by tackles. More into the game after the break, first to deny Idrissa Gueye from range, then did well to met a fizzing Alex Iwobi cross. Not many shot to save, but did what was needed. 7

Kurt Zouma

There was a first appearance in two months for Zouma after undergoing knee surgery. Made some good early tackles but survived a small scare when mis-judging a header for a Everton attack, with Lucas Paqueta forced to make amends. Shortly after seemingly injuring his hamstring, Zouma turned provider when flicking on a Emerson cross to lead to Bowen's openers. With Everton dominating large parts of the second half, he was forced to defend, which he did well. 7

Angelo Ogbonna

After a start against Wolverhampton Wanderers last week, Ogbonna kept his place, moving into the middle of the back three. A shaky first half but he was vital in the second, getting himself in the way of every possible Everton attack needed. Very good in the second half. 7

Nayef Aguerd

The best of the West Ham centre-backs, he made some key interventions in the first half on the occasions Everton flirted with getting forward and making things happen. Made an excellent challenge on Demarai Gray in the second half on the break and showed a good range of passing to send Bowen on runs forward. Really starting to show good value. 7

Vladimir Coufal

Not an amazing game, as he moved out to right wing-back in the system change. His crosses into the box and decision-making was often poor. Slightly improved after half-time but more for his defensive work than it was in attack. 5

Lucas Paqueta

Paqueta was better for his defensive work than he was going forward, forced to put his foot into it and added bite in the middle of the pitch. Created one early chance for Said Benrahma that came to no good. Not his best, but an okay showing. 6

Declan Rice

A captain's performance, ran well from midfield, mopped up with a number of countless tackles and interceptions and almost added a rare goal late on with a driving run, although he could have squared it to Bowen. Good passing too and a job well done all round. 7

Emerson

At left wing-back, Emerson had a really good game, with his cross leading to Bowen's first goal. Almost came close to getting a second contribution minutes later, with his cross getting headed wide by Antonio. Had a second half shot tipped onto the bar by Jordan Pickford. Plenty to like. 7

Jarrod Bowen

Less than 24 hours after he and partner Dani Dyer announced they were expecting twins, Bowen produced a first-half double to put West Ham in such a commanding position. His first saw him race onto a Zouma flick-on, poking home from close-range and after eventually given a long VAR check. It only took him seven minutes to add a second, being in the right position to convert at the end of Antonio's cross. His first double and the first time West Ham have scored twice in the first half of a league game since the May draw with Manchester City. Made good runs and had a few chances to make it a hat-trick. A deserved 14th career brace nonetheless. 8

Michail Antonio

A mixed showing from Michail Antonio up front. Missed a sitter of an Emerson cross with his head, but good work and a cross down the right made up for it in the second half, with Bowen getting his second from it. Did little after the break, a largely quiet showing but an important assist. 6

Said Benrahma

A first half shot out of nothing that tested Pickford got the game going. Did not do too much but had flashes, including one clever turn and flick in the second half that led to Rice going close. Good in moments, but on the whole, just okay. 6

Substitutes

Tomas Soucek

Like the last home game against Brentford on December 30, Tomas Soucek found himself benched due to the change to 3-4-3, replacing Paqueta with just under 20 minutes to go. Added physicality, but quiet. 5

Danny Ings

Brought on to make his debut in a double change alongside Soucek with 18 minutes to go, just over 24 hours after his £12million move from Aston Villa. Some good touches to win fouls. 5

Flynn Downes

With less than 10 minutes to go, Moyes made another double change, with Flynn Downes coming on a day after his 24th birthday. A bright showing. N/A

Ben Johnson

Alongside Downes, Ben Johnson got some rare minutes. Good tempo down the left. N/A
