West Ham: David Moyes outlines Jarrod Bowen plan as star thrives in striker role

David Moyes says Jarrod Bowen is showing this season that he can play as a central striker for West Ham.

A wide player by trade who tends to operate on the right, Bowen has been used as a traditional No9 on six occasions this season with Michail Antonio injured and Danny Ings out of favour, producing three goals and an assist as the attack's focal point.

Bowen's latest strike on Thursday against Tottenham helped West Ham to a comeback win. Only Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah have scored more than the West Ham man's nine Premier League goals this term and he could hit double figures on Sunday at Fulham.

“He can play the centre-forward position as well”, Moyes said. “Jarrod has always scored goals. He’s scored a lot of goals coming off wide areas, but I think he has shown he can play centrally as well.

“There are games we will play him wide and there are games where we will play him as a centre-forward.”

Mohammed Kudus is another who has impressed in front of goal, with five in 18 games since joining West Ham from Ajax, and Moyes feels the £38million signing has settled in with ease.

“Mo has been exceptional in so many different ways," Moyes said. “He’s been an assist-maker and he’s been a goalscorer for us. His work-rate for the team [has been great], and I can only see him improving as he goes on.”
