It barely feels a moment since West Ham's 2022/23 campaign finished with Europa Conference League glory in Prague, and yet the new season has crept up in the background. So here we are, the release day of the next set of Premier League fixtures, this time for 2023/24.
The Hammers will be hopeful that their domestic efforts will bear more fruit this time around after a disappointing league season saw them at threat of relegation at times. David Moyes and his squad managed to recover, finishing 14th and hitting the 40-point mark that eventually gave them a six-point buffer to the bottom three.
While the faith shown to the manager resulted in a European trophy, the desire for improvement in the league will be clear for the upcoming campaign. A host of signings could see the Irons transform those fortunes, though it could also have them lose club captain Declan Rice.
It remains to be seen who will step out to the pitch on the opening game, but Moyes does now have an idea as to how the season will pan out, with the full fixtures now revealed.
Opening game
The first match of the season is a trip to the south coast as the Hammers have been drawn to play AFC Bournemouth away on August 12th. The London outfit will be hopeful of similar results to last season, where they picked up two victories with a 6-0 aggregate score across both games.
First home game
Whether you've renewed your season ticket or you've been waiting to see the fixture list before deciding on which games to go, the first clash at the London Stadium is a big one. West Ham host London rivals Chelsea on the August 19th, looking to get one over their city neighbours.
Last season saw a mixed bag of results after an early season 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge, but a spirited 1-1 draw at home in February. The Blues had a poor campaign by their lofty standards and it remains to be seen whether they'll be back to their old ways under Mauricio Pochettino or if they will falter at the start.
Boxing day
It rarely gets much better than Boxing day clashes in the Premier League fixture calendar, with a mixture of season's cheer and football. For West Ham this year, it doesn't get much bigger either as they're set to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in a huge all-London affair.
The Irons fell to a 3-1 defeat at that venue last time out, but a 2-2 draw back in Stratford effectively halted the Gunners from making a Premier League title push.
Final game
May 2024 feels a far cry from now, but many will be hopeful that West Ham aren't in any relegation trouble and are perhaps in European contention once more. While it remains to be seen where they will be, the Irons may hope that they won't need to rely on a result in the final game as they are set to face Manchester City away.
In both meetings in the past year, the Premier League champions ran out winners with an aggregate score of 5-0, making for a very tough close to the campaign.
