West Bengal govt prepares for app cab raids from May 4

KOLKATA: Police and state transport department will hit the streets from May 4 when the new guidelines by the state regarding app cab operations are likely to come into force.

Ahead of the implementation, the state transport department will also convene a meeting of aggregators to take stock of how they plan to implement the rules. Senior officers of transport department confirmed that their motor vehicle inspectors have been asked to carry out special raids to ensure that app-cabs are sticking to norms.

Cops said they would assist motor vehicle inspectors, especially regarding cancellations and misbehaviour.

Indranil Banerjee, convener of West Bengal Online Cab Operators’ Guild, said they wanted aggregators to spell out what riders are being charged and how much drivers are earning.
