West Bengal: Fraudster posed as Bidhannagar police commissioner to dupe family members of sexual offence accused

KOLKATA: A 38-year-old man was arrested for allegedly extorting money from the family members of an alleged sexual offender by impersonating as the commissioner of Bidhannagar Police.

The fraudster had managed the family’s contact from a law clerk at a Barasat court where the man’s case was being heard. To make his fraud look genuine, Sushobhan Saha used a photograph of Bidhannagar police commissioner Supratim Sarkar as his whatsApp DP and had saved his number with Sarkar’s name at a popular smartphone app with caller identification feature.
