West Bengal: CBI nabs one more accused in Jhalda councillor murder case

KOLKATA: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested one more absconding accused - Sashi Bhusan Singh from Muzzafarpur in Bihar in an ongoing investigation of a case related to the murder of Tapan Kandu, the Congress councillor from Jhalda Municipality. One 0.32 pistol and 18 cartridges have been recovered from him.

Singh will be produced before the CJM court in Purulia on Friday. The fresh arrest comes barely two weeks after CBI arrested another absconder – Jabir Ansari from Bokaro on September 3 earlier this month. Ansari was remanded to police custody and it was his questioning that helped cops track down singh.

CBI had registered the murder case on April 6 based on High Court’s order after Kandu’s wife moved the High Court. After investigation, the CBI has already filed the primary chargesheet in this case on June 13 before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Purulia against five accused. Further investigation was kept open on certain issues including the role of other absconding accused and larger conspiracy, if any.
