TRANSPORT police have dismissed social media claims that travellers set up camp at Wemyss Bay Station last month.
A photograph appearing to show individuals erecting a tent on the station concourse, posted on X, included the warning caption “Be Aware”.
It was viewed more than 179,000 times online, generating some angry responses.
Largs and Millport News were told that police were contacted about an incident regarding campers at the station at the start of last week.
But a British Transport Police spokesperson has clarified that there is no suggestion those involved were travellers.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "From looking at the logs, there is no suggestion these were travellers.
"It was three people who camped overnight who, after being spoken to by station staff and being given words of advice, moved on.
"Police were not needed."
