Welsh 'spotted in moon boot' after Rodgers Celtic injury update

Celtic defender Stephen Welsh has reportedly been spotted in a moon boot and using crutches sparking fears over his injury.

Brendan Rodgers confirmed Welsh had suffered "a little bit of a knock" in training on Friday.

However, the manager was coy on the severity of the injury as he admitted he was unable to put a timeline on a comeback.

And now Celtic fans are concerned Welsh could have sustained a serious injury as an image on social media showed the player with crutches and his right leg in a protective boot.

It's not known how serious an injury Welsh has suffered. The setback comes just hours after Celtic announced the defender had agreed a new deal to 2027.

Speaking earlier today, Rodgers had said: "Yeah, great for him. He picked up a little bit of a knock today, which was a shame for him, considering he just signed his new deal and it being announced.

"I'm really pleased for him, he's a guy that loves Celtic, and loves playing here. He’s been a great player within the squad over these last number of years.

"Maybe not played as much as what he would have liked, but his heart’s very much here and I'm delighted for him that he's committed to signing."

Asked how long the defender could be sidelined, Rodgers said: "I don’t know yet, we just have to wait and see on that."

On his new four-year deal, Welsh commented: “Signing a new contract for the club that I’ve been brought up on and have supported my whole life was, for me, an easy decision to stay at the club for another four years at least hopefully.

“It’s time for me to kick on now and hopefully I can have a few good seasons.

“I want to keep improving and continue to play as many games as I can, especially with the manager in now. He’s been massive for me since he’s come in.

“He’s one of the main reasons that I want to be at the club and I’m just looking forward to starting the season properly and going for it.”
