Millions of treasures housed in Wales' national museums face an "ongoing risk" due to a £65m maintenance backlog. Museum Wales has warned that structural problems across the buildings that make up its seven national museums threaten the national collection.
Many of these buildings, like St Fagans Castle and National Museum Cardiff, are Grade I listed, reports the BBC. The national collection comprises five million items from around the world, such as paintings and archives.
Some £15m worth of these items are "critical" and "in need of urgent repair". A spokesperson for the Welsh Government, which sponsors Museum Wales, told the BBC that maintaining the museum's estate was a priority and assured that it would receive further funding from trusts, foundations and sponsorship.
