Well wishes pour in for popular twins involved in car crash on way to GAA training

Well wishes are being paid to popular twin sisters who were involved in a car crash on their way to county training.

Caitlin and Aoife Taggart were on their way to Antrim county training for when the incident happened on the Crumlin Road in Belfast.

It is understood emergency services used the jaws of life to help remove Aoife from the car, Belfast Live reports.

The sisters were then taken to the emergency department of the Royal Victoria Hospital with Aoife suffering a dislocated shoulder while Caitlin sustained cuts and bruises.

Both players are now recovering at home and will miss Antrim’s opening Lidl Ladies National Football League clash against Derry next weekend.

The pair were key members of Emma Kelly’s squad last year and played in the Ulster final victory over Derry at Davitt’s while the Taggart's also featured in last September’s All-Ireland JFC defeat to Wicklow in Croke Park.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Antrim Ladies Gaelic Football Association said: “Antrim LGFA would like to wish a speedy recovery to our Senior Ladies Players, Caitlin and Aoife Taggart, after they were in a car accident on their way to county training. Wishing you both a speedy recovery and hope to see you both back soon.”

Those sentiments were echoed by the Antrim county board, who added: “Antrim GAA sends our best wishes to Caitlin and Aoife a speedy recovery. We hope to see you back on the field soon but most importantly back to health.”

Aoife and Caitlin’s father Liam also thanked the emergency services and the staff at the Royal while their club, St James’ Aldergrove, posted: “All at Naomh Séamas CLG wish Aoife and Caitlin Taggart a speedy recovery after their car crash last night. Get well soon girls.”
