Well-loved Edinburgh mum and huge Hearts fan dies suddenly as family pay tribute

A well-loved Edinburgh mum and huge Hearts fan died suddenly just days before Christmas as her broken-hearted sons and immediate family pay their tributes.

Lisa Clarkson, 44, tragically died on December 23 surrounded by her family.

The lifelong Hearts fan loved her team and held a season ticket for decades. She was excited about the famous New Year derby but sadly died a couple of weeks before.

Now family, friends and fellow Hearts fans have organised a tribute clap on the 44th minute of the match to remember the incredible mum.

Her son Darnell will be attending the game but his brother is still looking for a ticket to take part in the tribute for his mum.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live Darnell said; " My mum gained her wings on December 23 with her nearest and dearest round her bed.

"She loved two things in life her family and football. She had a heart of gold and would have done anything for anyone, she brought so many laughs, love and life to everyone’s life.

"If you got to know mum you were lucky enough to know such a legend."

Lisa adored football and was well-known in the Hearts community. He said: "She was a die-hard heart of Midlothian fan, she wouldn’t miss a home game, no matter what.

"Mum played football when she was younger for her primary school Pefermill, and Castlebrae High School and then went on to play for teams such as Eskmills and Tynecastle (until it was changed to Hibernian)."

He continued: "Since then continued to support hearts and become a season ticket holder and attended the games with her father, James Clarkson.

"Her childhood best friend June Mcarthur has organised a minute applause at the upcoming Hearts and Hibernian derby on January 2 at Tynecastle.

"We would appreciate it if everyone could get involved. Members of her family are seeking tickets to attend the match as this is something they do not want to miss."

Her sister Jeannie Clarkson said: "I lost my big sister last night she fought hard all week but unfortunately it wasn’t enough. There are too many words that would explain how I feel, basically a roller coaster of emotions.

"I can’t believe she’s gone she helped me grow she fought my battles and still would to this day!

"She gave me the most amazing nephews that I’m so proud of and proud of her for raising them as they are so amazing! Sleep tight big sis."

Gary Robertson said: "So so sad r.I.p Lisa. Thinking of the family at this sad time."
