A Glasgow woman who thought her leukaemia symptoms was 'just tiredness' has opened up on the heartbreaking moment she realised she was about to be diagnosed with cancer . Melissa McNaughton, 33, told how she took a panic attack in a hospital toilet after seeing posters about the disease, despite thinking she was only getting her iron levels checked.
The beauty business owner, from Bridgeton, had seen her GP 24 hours earlier after thinking her health may be suffering because she was overworked. But after checking her iron levels, the doctor had asked her to visit the hospital the following day.
Now Melissa has bravely recalled the visit - and how she felt "ill with fear" after arriving at the ward - in a bid to raise awareness of the symptoms of leukaemia.
Scots teacher who 'dragged' primary pupil along floor allowed to continue teaching
A Scots teacher who "dragged" a primary school pupil along the floor has been found fit to teach by the regulatory body.
Rachel Wadsworth previously said she felt ashamed of leaving the youngster "terrified" during the incident at a school in South Lanarkshire in December 2017. She had only ever partly admitted the allegation saying she didn't realise the pupil was being pulled along as she was distracted with what was going on in her class.
Miss Wadsworth claimed she was holding the pupil's arm to encourage them to come back into class and that during this the pupil was "pulled on their knees". The Scots teacher admitted she was 'too eager' to get back to the classroom and was "walking too quickly" at the time.
Controlling boyfriend threatened to cut partner's dad open 'like a can of beans' in row over Facebook use
A domestic bully smashed his terrified partner's windscreen as she tried to escape from him before he threatened to stab her father.
Raging James Stewart said he would cut Charlotte Donaldson's father open "like a can of beans" in a row sparked by him catching her using Facebook. Dundee Sheriff Court was told that jealous Stewart, 24, flew into a violent rage with Miss Donaldson because he did not want her to be on the social media site.
She tried to flee when he told her he had a knife and would "cut her open" and Stewart chased her to her car and started to damage it to prevent her escape. He smashed the windscreen and ripped off the wheel trims before Miss Donaldson eventually managed to get away and call for help.
Nicola Sturgeon says she is 'British' as she opens up on 'complex' national identity
SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon has said she feels partly British after declaring that identity is “complex”.
The First Minister, whose family has roots in Sunderland, also said an independent Scotland would remain part of the British Isles.
Sturgeon made the comments in an interview with sports journalist Graham Spiers in an interview at the Edinburgh Festival.
DWP issues new cost of living payment warning to people due money over next few months
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued a new scam warning to millions of people due to receive cost of living payments over the coming months to help ease the financial pressure of soaring energy bills and record-breaking inflation.
Nearly eight million people have already received the first instalment of the £650 means-tested payment for £326, with a further one million people on Tax Credits due to get the money next month.
Earlier this week, the DWP confirmed that around six million people claiming disability benefits will see one-off payments for £150 land in their bank accounts from September 20.
