Scots mum blasts Wetherspoons pub after staff refuse to serve disabled son they thought was 'drunk'
Bar staff at a Wetherspoons pub refused to serve a customer with cerebral palsy because they thought he was drunk.
Ross Wilson, 35, was left “humiliated” following the incident at the Alexander Graham Bell in Edinburgh’s George Street last Wednesday.
His heartbroken mum Karen, who was with Ross at the time, claims the worker “smirked” when she told him Ross had learning and mobility difficulties which means he has trouble with balance and co-ordination.
She’s now campaigning for landlords to support customers with disabilities and make them feel “welcome and part of society”.
Girl, 12, saved from marrying 70-year-old man moments before wedding ceremony
A 12-year-old girl was saved from marrying a 70-year-old man just moments before the wedding ceremony.
Two months ago, Amira was the most excited she felt in months. Her brother was getting married, she was told, so the family were preparing to head to Garissa Town, a Kenyan county adjacent to the Somalia border, for celebrations, reports the Daily Mirror.
“I had a new dress to wear, they were putting henna on my hands. It was going to be a celebration, I was looking forward to eating lots of food,” she said.
The excitement of a feast was palpable for a young girl reeling from the impacts of drought and edging closer to starvation.
But little did Amira know, her brother's so-called wedding was a front for her own wedding to a 70-year-old in exchange for a small dowry of cows, all arranged by her uncle.
World's strongest brothers left to train in car park after being evicted from warehouse
The world's strongest brothers have been left to train in a car park after they were evicted from the warehouse they had used since the start of the year.
Luke and Tom Stoltman were told to pack up their things by the landlord who owned the facility in Invergordon last month. The duo had been granted permission to use the space on Cromarty Firth Industrial Park by a third party who were renting the property - but after owners the Bannerman Company sold the other half, they were told they could no longer gain access.
They've now back training at their gym space and using the car park outside for their moving events - but they are using the blow as motivation to move along plans to open up a training facility of their own in the town. Luke and Tom Stoltman's impressive deadlifts, log presses and keg tosses have scored them an array of trophies and accolades through the years.
Tom, 28, became the first ever Scot to win the World's Strongest Man competition in 2021 before retaining title this year - while Luke, 37, won the Europe's Strongest Man award in 2021 and came runner up in 2022.
Speaking to the Record, Luke said: "It's frustrating that my brother has won the world's strongest man two times and is probably the greatest strength athlete that we've got and we are forced to train outside in the car park."
Locals furious as Israeli arms company linked to 'war crimes' sets up in Scots car park
Residents on the Mull of Kintyre have demanded answers after an Israeli weapons company set up a military-style compound at a beauty spot car park.
Elbit Systems, which makes military drones and other high-tech weapons systems, caused a storm at Carradale Bay when it erected communications masts and, locals claim, launched mini-submarines.
The controversial company also had a vessel operating from Campbeltown and 16 Israeli guests were said to be staying at the town’s Royal Hotel.
It is also claimed that MoD and UK Border Force staff were assigned to the area during the reconnaissance trip last week.
Homeowner who built blockade to stop cars parking on road now plans to add lake
A resident who constructed an 'awful' blockade on the road in front of his house to stop school-run parents parking there is now planning to turn a huge pothole into a lake.
Derek Woodacer has enraged neighbours with his extreme road-blocking measures in Mosley Common, Tyldesley, but says that he 'doesn't care' and claims that their annoyance only makes him 'more determined to carry on'. After a barricade he built was torn down, the 65-year-old dug a massive pothole instead - and now wants to make it into a lake, Manchester Evening News reports.
Derek has dubbed the project 'Lake Como-nside' as a tongue-in-cheek reference to to one of his favourite holiday spots - Lake Como in Italy. He said: “I have more plans in the future.
“The pothole now, I am going to make it into Lake Como-nside. I have upset enough people but I just don’t care now.
"I don’t know where this leaves me with the neighbours now. This just makes me more determined to carry on.”
