Karrie Webb will finally get her Olympic Games moment with the Hall of Famer chosen to guide Australia's golf team at Paris 2024.
Despite being part of the push for golf's inclusion, Webb narrowly missed selection as a player when the sport made its return to the Olympics in Rio 2016 and then was rarely playing when the Tokyo Games came around.
The former world No.1 is excited to become non-playing team captain with the likes of two-time Olympian and world No.4 Minjee Lee and also Cameron Smith, who recently won the Players Championship, among those in contention for the Paris Games.
World No.6 Smith and six-time PGA tour winner Marc Leishman both played in Tokyo while Lee and fellow major champion Hannah Green were Australia's female representatives.
British Open winner Ian Baker-Finch steered the team at the past two Games before handing over to seven-time major champion Webb.
"If the Aussies are playing well in the lead up to Paris we will feel pretty good going in there and that we have a good chance of a medal," Webb told AAP.
Webb admitted Olympic golf initially faced some resistance from male players but was quickly growing in popularity.
"I'd say the majority of the women have been excited by the opportunity and we also know the platform that the Olympics can provide us that the men get more regularly," Webb said.
"I think it was great that Cam and Marc were so into being a part of the Australian team (in Tokyo) and even some of the other teams, Xander Schauffele winning the gold medal for the US, he was super pumped about that.
"And the US I think had their second and third top ranked players while in Rio it went further down the list
"As more Olympics happen it's going to be a part of what kids know."
Webb she would like to see a mixed team aspect introduced and also the Olympic format changed with mixed four- ball an option or some kind of team aggregate medal competition.
Webb will also lead Australia's top amateur women at the Olympic Games course, Le Golf National, in August, which she will use as a fact-finding mission.
She has only played there once, at the world amateur championships in back in 1994.
"It will be good to get a look at in August; looking at it on TV it still looks kind of familiar - they played a regular men's European event there for many years," Webb said.
