Weather tomorrow June 23: IMD warns of heavy rain in 13 states including Maharashtra, Bihar, Odisha, Assam; heatwave alert in East UP and Vidarbha

The latest weather update for tomorrow from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicates highly contrasting conditions across the country. While several regions are set to receive heavy rainfall, parts of northern and central India continue to face heatwave-like conditions, creating a mixed and extreme weather pattern across multiple states.

IMD forecast: Heavy rain alert across 13 states

According to the forecast, the India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for 13 states. The affected regions are expected to experience intense showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the next 24 hours.

Areas in eastern, northeastern, and coastal belts are likely to see the most significant rainfall activity, with local disruptions possible due to waterlogging and reduced visibility. Authorities have advised residents to stay alert and follow safety advisories issued by local administrations.

Heatwave conditions persist in East UP and Vidarbha

While rainfall is expected in many regions, heatwave conditions are likely to continue in parts of eastern India. In particular, East Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha are on alert for high temperatures and dry conditions.

The state of Uttar Pradesh may experience uncomfortable daytime heat, especially in its eastern districts, while Vidarbha in Maharashtra is also expected to remain hot and dry despite changing weather patterns elsewhere.

Jammu & Kashmir–Ladakh region

Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad are likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on June 22. Isolated to scattered rainfall will continue from June 23 to 28, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Hailstorm activity is also likely on June 22 in some parts.

Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are expected to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from June 22 to 28. The region may also witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds during this period, with isolated hailstorm activity possible in Himachal Pradesh on June 22.

Delhi, Haryana, Punjab & Rajasthan

Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, and both East and West Rajasthan are likely to see isolated to scattered rainfall between June 22 and 28. These areas may also experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds during this period. Thundersquall conditions are also likely over East and West Rajasthan on June 22–23.

Central India (Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh)

Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, West Madhya Pradesh, and East Madhya Pradesh are expected to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from June 22 to 28. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are also likely across the region during most of this period.

East India

Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha are expected to receive widespread rainfall in phases between June 22 and 28. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and parts of Bihar and Odisha during specific dates. Strong thunderstorms and thundersqualls are also expected in Jharkhand, Bihar, and nearby regions.

Northeast India

Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura are expected to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall throughout June 22 to 28. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya on specific days, along with thunderstorms and lightning activity across the region.

West India

Konkan & Goa are likely to receive widespread rainfall from June 22 to 28. Gujarat Region, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, and Saurashtra & Kutch will see isolated to scattered rainfall. Heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan & Goa, while thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are also expected across parts of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

South Peninsular India

Tamil Nadu, Kerala & Mahe, Coastal Karnataka, North and South Interior Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry are expected to receive widespread rainfall during June 22–28. Heavy rainfall is likely in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Coastal Karnataka, and parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on select days. Thunderstorms and gusty winds will also continue across the region.

IMD advisory and public safety

The IMD has urged citizens in affected regions to stay updated with local forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall periods. In heatwave-prone areas, people are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.
