Ireland isn’t out of the woods yet when it comes to cold weather, with national forecaster Met Eireann predicting a return to freezing temperatures after a miserable and wet weekend.
In its most recent forecast for the weekend and the beginning of next week, Met Eireann has dashed any hopes of a nice transition into sunny weather as the clocks go forward on Sunday.
Instead, the forecaster has explained that the weekend will be mostly dominated by isolated showers and moderate temperatures between zero and 10 degrees. However, come Sunday night, temperatures are expected to “fall well below freezing.”

Alan O’Reilly from the Twitter page Carlow Weather has also put forward weather forecasts for the weekend, also indicating that moving into the beginning of the weekend on Friday, there would be “some strong winds again” as well as heavy showers indicating the start of a spate of bad weather.
Met Eireann’s forecast for the weekend reads: “Showers will become mostly confined to Atlantic coastal counties on Friday night with long dry and clear spells developing elsewhere.”
The lowest temperatures will be between three to five degrees as strong westerly winds ease overnight.
Moving into Saturday there will be more sunny spells and scattered showers and “there is the chance of a spell of more persistent rain affecting southern counties for a time.”
The highest temperatures will be between 10 to 13 degrees with light winds to moderate westerly winds. Heading into Saturday night there will be “clear spells and isolated showers”
Temperatures will also being to drop then, with lowest temperatures zero to plus two degrees in moderate northerly breezes.
Sunday will be drier, with “some sunshine and isolated showers, mainly affecting the north and northeast of the country.”
However, a dry and clear night on Sunday night will allow temperatures to fall well below freezing as winds fall light.
Current indications suggest Monday will be a cold dry day with light winds with another spell of rain arriving for Tuesday.
