Weather in Edinburgh will plunge to sub-zero temperatures in big freeze

Temperatures in Edinburgh are predicted to plunge below freezing in Edinburgh overnight on Thursday.

It will be a cool afternoon in the capital on Thursday, with the mercury steadily dropping throughout the remainder of the day.

Light rain showers are forecast in the late afternoon and early evening, after which skies should gradually clear up.

According to BBC Weather, it will be "mostly dry and cold with clear skies" tonight.

By 8pm, temperatures will have fallen to 3 degrees Celsius, and will continue to drop into early Friday morning.

At around 2am, things will turn even colder — with lows of -3C expected through to 7am.

After this, temperatures will begin to rise in a bright and sunny morning.

By midday, the city will have warmed to 5C, before peaking at 6C around 2pm.

BBC Weather forecasts "sunny intervals and a moderate breeze" on Friday, though darker clouds and rainfall are expected by night.
