Weather expert forecasts 'thundery showers' for Tuesday before evening u-turn

Last month Ireland was hit with some immense blasts of thunder and lightning, with various weather warnings being put in place for thunderstorms as the country was zapped by lightning.

While the thunderstorms from early June aren’t set to return, one weather expert has pinpointed today as potentially bringing some thundery showers.

Alan O’Reilly from the popular Twitter page Carlow Weather has predicted some heavy and “possibly thundery” Tuesday for Tuesday, however, these are set to clear away tonight and won’t be “as strong” moving into Wednesday.

He wrote on his Twitter page: “Tuesday will be another mixed day with some heavy and possibly thundery showers in the afternoon, especially in the East.

“Winds will ease off tonight and won’t be as strong tomorrow but still very breezy. No heat going spare though, only 14C to 18C.”

Meanwhile, in its forecast for Tuesday, Met Eireann also pinpointed a “chance of isolated thunderstorms with very heavy falls locally” alongside frequent heavy showers, however, these will clear away in the early night.

According to Met Eireann, on Tuesday there will be: “Sunny spells and frequent heavy showers spreading from the northwest this morning.

“Showers may merge to longer spells of rain at times, while there will be a chance of isolated thunderstorms with very heavy falls locally, especially during the afternoon in the south and east. Better dry intervals will begin to spread from the northwest through the afternoon.

“Highs of 14C to 18C, coolest in the northwest in moderate to occasionally fresh west to northwest winds.”

Moving into the evening time, the national forecaster added that: “Heavy showers in the southeast will clear early in the night, however further light showers will spread from the Atlantic over the west of the country but turning largely dry with clear spells in the east.

“Lowest temperatures of 6C to 11C, in light west to southwesterly winds with a few mist patches in places too.”
