Weather Dublin: Hot weather here to stay with another record-breaking day on the way

Day-time temperatures are unlikely to drop below 20 degrees this week before another scorcher hits at the weekend.

Yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far with a roasting 27.2 degrees recorded in the Phoenix Park. This weekend and into next week is forecast to be similarly hot with one weather expert warning we could see highs of 29 degrees.

Normal summer weather is set to return after the weekend. Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather said: "The weather model trends show increased support for a hot spell this weekend and Monday and Tuesday next week.

"Staying largely dry after tonight’s light rain. Longer term turning back to more normal temperatures and a little more showery likely."

Met Eireann's forecast for Dublin reads:

Today

Mostly cloudy this morning. Brightening up with sunny spells this afternoon and evening. Maximum temperatures of 20 to 23 degrees. Light southwest winds will gradually veer northwest.

Tonight

Clear spells overnight with just a few light showers. A fresher, cooler night than of late with lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in a moderate northwest breeze.

Wednesday

Largely dry tomorrow, with long spells of sunshine. Top temperatures will range from 19 to 22 degrees, with light to moderate westerly winds.

Thursday

Generally dry early on Thursday with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. However, it looks set to become mostly cloudy later in the day with patchy rain affecting parts of the west and north. Highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees in a moderate westerly breeze

Friday

There will be a good deal of cloud about early on Friday with the chance of some light showers or drizzle in parts of the west and north. Clearing up later on with the best chance of sunshine in the east and south. Top temperatures ranging 19 to 24 degrees, warmest in the east of the country in a moderate southwest breeze.

Saturday

Saturday looks to bring scattered showers interspersed with sunny spells. A warm day with highest temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees with light to moderate southwesterly breezes.

Sunday

Sunday and early next week look to bring plenty of dry and warm weather, with daytime maximum temperatures possibly reaching the high 20's.
