Wealdstone boss makes Notts County admission following Grosvenor Vale drubbing

Wealdstone boss Stuart Maynard says Notts County are the best side he has ever seen in the National League.

The Magpies were at their clinical best during their trip to Grosvenor Vale, scoring three goals in the opening half an hour courtesy of Macaulay Langstaff, Adam Chicksen and Matty Palmer, before the Zimbabwean grabbed his second of the evening three minutes before half-time.

And the scoring ensued just a minute after the restart, with Aaron Nemane's deflected effort opening his account for the season before Geraldo Bajrami bundled home the Frenchman's cross to see Notts score six goals away from home for the first time since 1924.

The hosts did manage to pull a goal back when Micah Obiero beat Sam Slocombe at his near post to reduce the arrears, before defender Richard Brindley saw red midway through the second half after tugging back Olufela Olomola after losing possession.

Speaking after the game to the club's social media page, Maynard highlighted the Magpies' ruthlessness in front of goal during their first half performance and labelled them the best team he has seen in the National League during his 20 months tenure at the club.

"I think that is the best team I have ever seen in the National League," explained Maynard.

"The way they moved the ball, the quality they have got all over the pitch, it's a hard one to take because you never want to get beat like that but sometimes you have to hold your hands up, they're that good.

"I think they are the best team that I have seen in this league and the quality that they have got; their finishing was just ruthless.

"You think in the first half, they had four chances and scored four. We had three chances, and we don't score."

Maynard went on to add the gap in quality between the two sides last season, likening the Magpies to Stockport County last campaign, with the Royals boss expecting Luke Williams' side to continue to gather momentum in their quest for National League glory.

"That's the big gap that you have seen tonight, it was a little bit like Stockport last season once they got going, they were like a train and for me I see them being the same, they will just rattle off the wins now."
