'We will be immortals': Dockers eye off history

Fremantle midfielder Andrew Brayshaw says his team have the chance to become "immortals" after securing a spot in the AFL grand final with a pulsating 12-point win over Sydney at the SCG.

The Dockers kicked the last six goals of Friday night's match to overturn a 28-point deficit and secure a famous 12.11 (83) to 10.11 (71) victory, setting up a grand final showdown against either Hawthorn or Brisbane.

Fremantle's only previous grand final appearance came in 2013, when their inaccuracy in front of goal resulted in a 15-point loss to Hawthorn.

Now 32 years after their inception, Fremantle have the chance to land the silverware they have long craved.

A few seasons ago, Brayshaw penned a letter and popped it into his teammates' lockers.

The note read: "The first 22 men to win a premiership at Fremantle will be immortals."

Brayshaw stuck to that theme after Friday night's preliminary final win over Sydney.

"It would be so special to be the first at the footy club," Brayshaw told Channel 7.

"We've been to a granny before and we came up short. For everyone that came before us, they've laid these foundations for us to be where we are now.

"I know how much it would mean to everyone - the fans, the players who have come before us.

"All we can do is give ourselves a chance, which we've done. Now we've just got to play with that same freedom, that same courage that we have the last two weeks.

"I mean what I said - I do feel like if we can win it, we will be immortals."

Fremantle star Shai Bolton has already won two flags at Richmond, but snaring one at the Dockers will be even more special.

"I grew up supporting Freo, and that's why I wanted to come back home," Bolton said.

"To win our first premiership is going to be crazy.

"Andy wrote us a letter on our locker and it said, 'the first boys to win a premiership will be immortal'.

"So yeah, I can't wait to get there and just super excited."
