MUMBAI: As the commissioner of the SA20, former South African captain Graeme Smith's mission is clear: He is aiming for the league to be the biggest in the game outside the IPL and he wants to "revive South Africa cricket".
"Our vision is to be the biggest league outside India, and to make sure we attract all the best players that people want to watch, make sure they want to be a part of it both in South Africa and globally like IPL has done. IPL is a beast of its own, but outside that we want to be the league that people choose. We want to revive South African cricket, and make sure that fans come back like they did last season. The stadiums were full. We built new heroes, the likes of Klaasen and the guys that are coming through like Tristan Stubbs. These players plus a whole lot more, we want these storylines to grow like the IPL has done for Indian cricket and we really believe there is an opportunity to do that. So, we want to go to strength to strengthen and grow," Smith told TOI in an interview during a visit to India to watch the 2023 World Cup.
