On a cold winter's afternoon I can't say the prospect of an ice cream seemed that appealing at the end of our soggy dog walk.
A warming hot chocolate maybe, but not an ice cream. Yet, after hearing about the queues that form outside Frederick's Ice Cream parlour whatever the weather, we were encouraged to give the place a try.

The family-run business sits at the side of the A6 in Chorley and makes luxury Italian ice cream that attracts customers from far and wide.
It's not big inside - not for the number of customers it pulls in anyway - but there's a big table for a large group in one corner, a few smaller tables and some high bar tables and seats for those who'd rather have the comfort of indoors instead of eating their ice creams in the wind and rain.
The place has just undergone a mini makeover, with neon signs and new pink and blue seating, giving customers even more a reason to pop in for a nosey.
Thankfully it wasn't too busy when we arrived late last Saturday afternoon and we managed to bag the big corner table, which gave us a bit more space to keep our Labrador Milo in check.
It turns out this place sells much more than ice cream too, so that extra table room came in handy when we decided to give the pizzas and garlic bread a go.
Prices are reasonable, £9 for a 12 inch pizza, and piping hot straight from the pizza oven. They weren't the most amazing pizzas we've ever had, but they were tasty enough and helped us fill a hole with something savoury before diving into the sweet stuff.
There's plenty to dive into too - with hot crepes, Belgian waffles, cookie dough and brownies among the many sweet treats on the menu, it was a difficult choice.
But, in the end we opted for the milkshakes and ice cream this place is famous for. Its goods are sold at other places too, like The Pavilion at Mesnes Park, Wigan, which is just as popular.
With every flavour imaginable on offer, from traditional vanilla and chocolate to custard cream, bubble gum and banoffee fudge, again it was a tricky decision. As was deciding what we wanted it in - a tub? a cone? what sort of cone? There's plain, chocolate, nutty, rainbow and sherbet to choose from. Then you can add toppings if you want - flakes, fudge sticks, marshmallows - along with sauce or whipped cream.
Keeping it simple, the kids went for Lotus Biscoff shakes and we opted for salted caramel ice cream - one tub, one cone.
Even Milo got his own tub of Lucky Dog ice cream - pots of the 'delicious, healthy, fat-free and dairy-free frozen treat' are kept in a separate freezer.
He ate a little piece of kibble off the top but sadly left the rest. Maybe it's just dogs who don't do ice cream in winter.
The same can't be said for the rest of us, ours was devoured in no time - and the kids are already asking when they can go back for another milkshake.
At £4.95 each, it won't be something we'll be making a habit of. Although the ice creams are a reasonable £2.50 each - for one pretty large scoop. There's a reason this place is open 9am to 10pm every day of the week. And come the summer months, I'm sure we'll be joining the back of a much longer queue to sample some more of the tempting flavours.
