One bakery from Kirikintilloch boasts Scotland's best apple pie so it only makes sense for me to give it a try.
Peter's Bakery sits on Merkland Drive in the East Dumbartonshire town. The shop front may be understated but the goods inside are a sight to behold.
As soon as you step throught the front door there is a sea of colour. The sweet goods look and smell divine, whilst the variety of savoury bakes leave the tastebuds tingling.

However, there is one thing that everyone comes to Peter's for....the apple pie. The desert was declared the best in the country at the Scotch Pie awards this year
It sits pride of place atop the counter alongside the trophy.
The pie looks exactly like an ideal desert should. The perfect brown top sprinkled with sugar and the green of the apple peeking through the hole in the middle.
I would never say that I'm massive of fruit pies but this one was different.
Baker and Owner Peter McDonald revealed what makes an award winning Apple Pie.
He said: "We always like to have a nice, good soul.
"Some nice moist filling, a crispy top. We ensure that the top ingredients are used.
"We always buy the top quality flour, margerines, apples and everything. We are from a long line of bakers and the recipe has been in the family for generations and we've tweaked it along the way.
"To received the diamond award is a great achievement for me and all of the staff."
The biggest fear when it comes to using an apple filling is that it seeps into the base and makes it soggy, this base was strong. I sliced into it with ease and the slice held together well, with both filling and pie sticking together.
I considered utilising ice cream as a side to the main event but decided against it.
After quickly heating it up, I tucked in and it was unbelievable. The pastry had the perfect mixture of crunch and crumble, the filling was chunky and full of flavour.
It wasn't dry but it wasn't overwhelmingly moist either, it was just right.
What really made this pie perfect was it's simplicity, there was no hidden tricks or surprise, it was just an apple pie.
After one slice it seemed very easy to grab another but I managed to stop myself.
However, as I write this I was tempted into trying a cold slice, to work out the best way to eat the award winning desert.
I'm glad I did because it somehow had more flavour than the hot one.
As a man who was never a real fan of fruity deserts this pie may have converted me.
I will definetly be making my way back to Peter's for another dose of apple pie.
