We tried Nugelato's new Tayto inspired ice-cream flavour

The combination of chocolate and crisps is a lot like Marmite – either you love it, or you hate it.

Local ice-cream chain Nugelato has followed the novelty factor of Tayto's new chocolate bar and turned it into their newest gelato flavour.

After seeing the mixed reactions to this creation online through the brand's TikTok account, we decided to head down to give it a try – and ended up being pleasantly surprised.

Walking into Nugelato's newest shop on the Andersonstown Road, we were feeling a little nervous about what we had signed up to.

The thought of mixing chocolate ice-cream with cheese and onion crisps was one that made my stomach churn. In all honesty, I didn't think there would be any way I would like it.

Nugelato are able to add new ice-cream flavours to their roster in all 11 stores quite easily, as they make all their gelato in-store.

Despite this, however, they're best known for their homemade traditional vanilla ice-cream.

Staff members Tracy and Darren were so lovely and talked us through what makes up their famous Tayto nuggy pot before letting us tuck in.

It starts off by swirling hot chocolate sauce around the carton before layering chocolate ice-cream, chunks of Tayto's cheese and onion chocolate bar and more sauce, before topping the carton off with their famous vanilla ice-cream, extra crisps, chocolate chunks and an extra portion of the chocolate sauce, just to be sure.

The nuggy pot was basically overflowing, and I wasn't sure how far I'd be able to get with it.

With the sauce dripping down the carton, I took my first bite and couldn't believe it - the flavour was so unique but amazing.

The combination of sweet and salty with the crisps, chocolate, and ice-cream was really satisfying, and by the time you finished the pot you easily could have had a nap!

I never would've expected I'd have liked the mix of chocolate ice-cream and cheese and onion crisps, but now can't wait until my next visit to have another try.

This is definitely one flavour you can't knock until you try!
