We simulated Liverpool vs Manchester United for score prediction

Liverpool have the chance to temporarily move top of the Premier League table on Tuesday, as they host major rivals Manchester United.

The Reds produced a stunning display at Wembley Stadium in their last outing, beating title rivals Manchester City 3-2 to reach the FA Cup final. The win meant Liverpool have booked their place in their second cup final of the season, with their quadruple hopes still alive.

Currently sat one point behind leaders Manchester City in the league table, a win for Jurgen Klopp 's side would take Liverpool top on Tuesday night, with City playing 24 hours later against Brighton. Past results against Manchester United play into Liverpool's favour ahead of the clash, with the last meeting between the two sides seeing Liverpool demolish United 5-0 at Old Trafford.

Liverpool went full strength against City in the FA Cup on Saturday, with Klopp expected to make some changes to his side. Naby Keita could drop out for Jordan Henderson in midfield after two consecutive starts, whilst Joel Matip and Diogo Jota could also return to the starting XI in place of Ibrahim Konate and Sadio Mane, with the latter seen with ice on his ankle after the win against City.

So, what line-ups will both teams select? And, what could the final score be? To find out, we used FIFA 22 to get a score prediction for Liverpool vs Manchester United on Tuesday. This is what happened.

Liverpool vs Man United score predicted by simulation

To get a score prediction, we used kick-off mode in FIFA 22, but didn't select a team to control, letting the AI play against each other. We then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself.

We predict that Liverpool could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold; Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Jota, Diaz.

We predict that United could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Dalot; Fernandes, Matic, Lingard; Sancho, Rashford, Elanga.

Liverpool started the game the better side in the first half, with Klopp's side controlling possession and sitting deep inside United's half. The first major chance of the game fell to Luis Diaz, but the Colombian's curling effort from range was pushed past the post by David De Gea.

Anthony Elanga managed to sneak in behind the Liverpool backline and find himself one-on-one with Alisson, but it was a poor effort from the winger, hitting the side netting from a tight angle. The first half ended all square, but a goal early in the second half saw United take a surprising lead at Anfield.

Jesse Lingard received the ball outside the box and was pressed quickly by multiple red shirts, including Trent Alexander-Arnold who left his position to do so. Lingard spotted the space on the right, and the midfielder played a ball through for Jadon Sancho who drilled a cross into the box, leaving Marcus Rashford the simple task of tapping into the net from close range.

Liverpool searched for a response as Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota both came close, but De Dea was equal to the efforts again with some mesmerising saves. Liverpool became more desperate as the game approached its close, and the Reds found the equaliser in the 85th minute through Alexander-Arnold.

The full-back found Salah down the line and continued his run forward, charging into the box rather than overlapping the Egyptian. Salah returned the ball to Alexander-Arnold who let the ball run through his legs and into his stride before striking a powerful effort over De Gea and into the top corner.

De Gea was having an incredible game for United, making three big saves at the death to keep the score at 1-1. The Spaniard denied Roberto Firmino, Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip all in added time, but on their fourth consecutive corner, Liverpool found the winner in the 94th minute through Sadio Mane.

Alexander Arnold fizzed the set-piece into the box which was missed at the front post by Firmino, slightly throwing De Gea in goal. The ball continued travelling to the back post, and substitute Mane met the cross to head into the top left corner and win the game.
