‘We’re screwed’ - Manchester United fans fear the worst after Diogo Dalot injury scare

Manchester United fans are concerned about Diogo Dalot’s future availability for the Reds after the right-back was taken off with what looked like a hamstring injury in Portugal's 1-0 loss to Morocco in the World Cup quarter-finals.

The full-back was seen clutching his leg before he was replaced by Ricardo Horta on 79 minutes. Dalot has played every United game he’s been available for this season.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has featured in both of the club’s mid-season friendlies during the week-long trip to Spain but has barely featured competitively. He’s played just four minutes all campaign while young right-back Ethan Laird is spending the season on loan at Queens Park Rangers.

United are expected to dip into the transfer market for competition for Dalot but the Reds play three times before the new year. When Dalot was suspended for the 2-1 win over Fulham prior to the World Cup break, Tyrell Malacia was asked to fill in at right-back.

The Dutchman was caught out for Fulham’s equaliser and didn’t look entirely comfortable throughout the match, albeit his boss branded his display “great”. United fans are nevertheless concerned, though, and are hoping Dalot’s supposed setback isn’t severe.

Supporters on Twitter shared their concern, some imploring the club to buy a new right-back in January.

@almishra: We can't catch a break.

@UtdMicah: We have no right back then.

@JustaFootyFan: Time to recall Laird.

@utdbodi: Poor guy has been run into the ground.

@SigmaKeane: Our season is done.

@UtdIlias: Hope it isn’t too serious. United either need to recall Laird or buy someone January.
