Back in December of 2023, Taylor Swift fans could easily find out if she was traveling to see Travis Kelce play thanks to an Instagram account that publicly tracked her private jets.
But suddenly, near Christmas, the account was gone. Fans were happy to see that her every movement wasn’t being displayed on social media.
So what happened? As you’d expect, and per the Washington Post, Jack Sweeney — the Florida college student who has tracked various private jets’ movements including those of Swift — was threatened with legal action by attorneys for the singer/songwriter.
Here’s more from CNN about what ended up happening:
The December letter from Swift’s lead attorney on this issue, Katie Morrone of Venable LLP, accuses Sweeney of engaging in “stalking and harassing behavior, including consistently publishing real-time and precise information about our client’s location and future whereabouts to the public on social media.”
The letter claims this poses an “imminent threat to the safety and wellbeing” of Swift. It also accuses Sweeney of disregarding the public safety of others “in exchange for public attention and/or requests for financial gain.”
Sweeney said he didn’t intend to do anything harmful but that he believes “in transparency and public information.”
