Anthony Martial could be the beneficiary of a World Cup-ending injury to fellow France striker Karim Benzema.
Benzema has suffered a thigh injury that will see him sidelined for the tournament in Qatar, which gets underway on Sunday. France boss Didier Deschamps is now on the lookout for a replacement for the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner, and Manchester United forward Martial is reportedly on the list of candidates. Wissam Ben Yedder and Moussa Diaby are also said to be in the running.
Martial has endured a stop-start season since returning to United from a loan at Sevilla. He has been restricted to just seven appearances this term but has netted an impressive four times in those outings.
