After a brief teaser trailer back in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has finally re-emerged with a proper trailer at The Game Awards 2024.
Most pertinently, The Outer Worlds 2 is due to launch in 2025 across Xbox Series X, PC, and, yes, PS5. Xbox's multiplatform strategy remains a bit difficult to read, but it seems that, just like the original Outer Worlds, the sequel will be a multiplatform launch too.
The trailer below offers our first real look at in-game action, and it appears to be just what you'd expect from a sequel to The Outer Worlds - albeit bigger and with a load of new toys to play with.
There's a some more detail on what to expect over on the official Xbox blog - a tiny bit more anyway, and yeah, you can expect more of the game's trademark irreverent tone: an "RPG with RPG elements" indeed. The game focuses on a "factional war between the 'benevolent rulers' known as the Protectorate, a rebellious scientific religious order, and a corporate mega power," and you'll influence who wins between "church, state, and capitalism."
You'll still have a bunch of options for how to build your character, including the ability to play as a straight-up idiot. The Outer Worlds 2 will still have plenty of companions to recruit, too. Obsidian's got a pair of big RPGs coming next year between this and Avowed, and the studio's pedigree certainly suggests they'll both be well worth the hype.
Obsidian's all over our list of the best RPGs.
