We interviewed Kevin the Carrot - his tips to get Christmas dinner for under £25

Earlier this month, Aldi announced that the nation’s favourite carrot was returning to stores alongside his veggie friends ahead of Christmas.

Featuring in a new plush toy range, Kevin the Carrot and friends graced the supermarket shelves on November 17 - with prices starting from £2.99.

Joining them were a selection of football themed plushes, featuring 'Ronaldi', 'Messy' and more, to pay homage to the iconic 1998 Nike World Cup advert.

This year's Aldi Christmas advert saw Kevin reunited with his family, Katie, Jasper, Chantenay and Baby, after missing a flight to join them on a holiday in Paris.

Now, with the family back together and ready to conquer Christmas, we speak to the world’s most famous carrot about how he makes the most of the festive period - including his favourite deals at Aldi.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?

“Ever since I was a baby carrot, Christmas has been my favourite time of year," said Kevin.

“These days, I tend to live life on the edge and always seem to end up in hot water.

"But now that the drama of my latest adventure is over, I’m looking forward to spending time with Katie and the kids.

“I’m disappointed I didn’t make it to Paris this year, but I did get to have a kick around with famous footballers – even if I am a bit unfit!”

How do you make the most out of Christmas?

"I think tradition is important. So we always write letter to Santa before snuggling up by an open fire," said Kevin.

"But I always spare a thought for Santa and his reindeer. It’s their busiest time of year.

"I think Rudolph really likes me too. Every time I see him, he gives me a nice big lick!"

Kevin says the family shops at Aldi at Christmas to "save a few peas."

He's particularly fond of Aldi's Christmas ‘Super 6', where shoppers can "get a real swede deal" on a selection of fresh and delicious vegetables.

For gifts, he recommends Aldi’s ‘Secret Sale’ section on Aldi.co.uk.

What’s your favourite Christmas food?

For many families, the food is a huge part of Christmas - and Aldi says it can feed a family of six for £23.48. This works out at around £3.91 per person.

Here is what you can get:

  • Oakhurst Small British Turkey Crown (£13.99, 1.5-1.9kg)
  • Let’s Party Pigs in Blankets (£1.99, 12 pack)
  • Champion Crispy & Fluffy Roast Potatoes (£0.89, 1kg)
  • Just Like Grandma’s Golden Yorkshire Puddings (£0.79, 12 pack)
  • Four Seasons Honey Glazed Parsnips (£1.65, 600g)
  • Four Seasons British Garden Peas (£0.65, 900g)
  • Four Seasons Brussels Sprouts (£1.09, 1kg)

  • Quixo Sage & Onion Stuffing Mix (£0.39, 170g)
  • Quixo For Meat Gravy Granules (£0.95, 300g)

"I’m part of a carrot family of five so Aldi’s Christmas dinner for under £25 deal is perfect," said Kevin.

"From Small British Turkey Crowns (£13.99, 1.5-1.9kg) to delicious Pigs in Blankets (£1.99, 12 pack) and Sage and Onion Stuffing (£0.39, 170g) to Meat Gravy Granules (£0.95, 300g) – what’s not to love?"

So can you tell us what’s on the Carrot family Christmas list this year?

"I’ve noticed that Katie has been circling a few things in the Aldi Specialbuys brochure.

  • Adult and Kids Hooded 3D Blanket (£12.99/£9.99). We’ll look like a right matching bunch!"
  • Caviar Gold Range (£5.99 - £7.99) – "Katie keeps going on about this and getting rid of her wrinkles. I just tell her she looks radishing."
  • His & Her Reign Eau de Parfum (£6.99 each) – "You can’t go wrong with matching fragrances. Afterall, it takes two to mango!"
  • Hotel Collection Hurricane Candles (£24.99) – "I just need to make sure I don’t sit too close to them. Otherwise, I’ll end up a roast carrot!"
  • Mini Chocolate Kevin’s (£1.49) – "The kid’s love chocolate - I expect their hearts will melt at the sight of these!"
  • Cuthbert Mini Rolls (£1.79) – "It’s great to see my mate back on shelf for the festive season!"

Where do you tend to buy your presents?

"I love venturing to the Aisle of Aldi on a Thursday or Sunday to see what’s new. I’ve even heard that you can get plush toys of me and the family. Blew my little carrot top when I found out!"

What do you do all year while you wait for Christmas?

"I do try to keep myself busy. This year I opened multiple new Aldi stores and even attended Birmingham and Manchester Pride – it was a pretty big deal!"

How did it feel to be separated from Katie over Christmas?

"I must admit, it was nice to have a bit of peas and quiet at first. I even got to watch a game or two.

"But once I became aware of the intruder, I was quaking in my boots! In the end, it was such a re-leaf to have everybody home safe and sound.
