'We don't care about them' - Martin Odegaard responds to Man City return to form

Arsenal players 'don't care' about Manchester City, their captain Martin Odegaard says, as he fired a warning to the Blues from the Premier League leaders.

City slipped eight points behind Arsenal with their defeat by Manchester United last week, but responded with two wins from two against Tottenham and Wolves. That closed the gap to two points to Arsenal before their clash with United on Sunday, albeit having played two games more.

It looked as though City would gain some ground on the Gunners, until Eddie Nketiah's late winner over United moved them back to five points ahead of City with a game in hand. And after the game, Odegaard was asked of the impact City's results had on the Arsenal squad.

“No, honestly, we don’t care about City or any other team,” Odegaard insisted. “We expected them to win so that was not a big surprise and we just focused on our game, to come here and win and that’s what we did. The way we won this game gives us a special feeling that will help as well."

With Arsenal on 50 points at the halfway stage of their season, losing just one game so far, Mikel Arteta's side would equal City's centurions total if they replicated their record from the first half of the season in the second.

However, Odegaard insisted there is no thought of winning the title or breaking any records in the process at the Emirates.

“It’s a long season. We’re just halfway through, there are many games to be played so we have to stay calm and humble," he said. "Our only focus is the next game and that’s all that matters. We have to stay focused like this. It’s way too far ahead to think about that [winning the title] now.

“We have to stay in the moment, everyone should enjoy the moment. We’re doing really well but we have to stay calm, it’s a long way to go and we have to keep working and improving. Then we’ll see.”

Arsenal next face a trip to City on Friday in the FA Cup, before a showdown between the top two in three Premier League games' time in February after that match was postponed earlier in the season. City travel to the Emirates in April, six games before the end of the campaign.
