We used Trolley.co.uk, who are sponsored by Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert (MSE) and found that Sainsbury's came out on top with three of the cheapest items. This included bread, cereal and cooked ham slices such as the one you would use for a sandwich.
Next up was Aldi and Asda who were tied with two of the cheapest items each - both supermarkets who recently scored well in a consumer comparison survey for Which?.
This was then followed by Iceland, Morrisons and Marks and Spencer who each had one of the most cheapest items.
