CHENNAI: The country cannot progress without the development of the states and the Centre and the states should work together as 'Team India', Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said on Saturday.
He said modern-day politicians must respect each other and not treat each other as 'enemies'. Naidu's remarks come in the wake of growing Centre-state tensions over various issues like NEET, NEP and GST dues.
Speaking at an event after unveiling a statue of late chief minister M Karunanidhi in Chennai, Naidu said India was becoming a strong nation with a stable government, able leadership and different political parties ruling different states. "But my suggestion is that all of us must work together for the welfare of the people. If the states develop then the country will develop. The country cannot progress without the development of the states. We are Team India," he said.
