Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted Chelsea will find it tough to compete with Manchester City and Liverpool next season and said it will be ‘very difficult’.
After starting this season brightly and being top of the league after 14 games, the season has petered out for Tuchel’s men. They lost both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup finals on penalties to Liverpool, exited the Champions League at the quarter-final stage to Real Madrid, while they now lie 18 and 19 points behind the Reds and Man City respectively.
They have faced off-field problems regarding the sanctioning of owner Roman Abramovich and a prolonged takeover saga. There are also a number of players set to depart at the end of the season, including the out of contract pair Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
