Wayne Rooney insists Tyson Fury will never be beaten and called for the Gypsy King to receive a knighthood.
Manchester United legend Rooney was in attendance as Fury brutally stopped Derek Chisora in a one-sided heavyweight world title fight on Saturday night. Showman Fury walked out to the famous 'Football's Coming Home' song - an ode to England's World Cup run in Qatar - before he crushed a forlorn Chisora with a ruthless barrage of searing punches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Fury's trilogy fight with his old rival 'Del Boy' quickly became a non-contest as the undefeated champion unloaded on the veteran, causing a gruesome injury as his right eye was almost sealed shut.
And he called out Oleskandr Usyk in the ring for an undisputed battle shortly after his evisceration of Chisora. Rooney, a huge combat sports fan, was effusive in his praise of Fury after his latest convincing triumph.
The current DC United manager cannot envisage Usyk defeating Fury, and called for the 34-year-old to be knighted for his incredible boxing achievements.
"He's the best we've seen for a long time," Rooney told TalkSPORT . "I don't think anyone will beat him. I think he's an absolute legend, what he's done for boxing. He's entertaining. His skills are incredible.
"His mentality is incredible. If I'm being honest, I probably think he should be knighted. Because he hasn't been afraid to go abroad. He's won titles abroad. Defended them abroad. He epitomizes everything that boxing is."
Rooney's assertion that Fury should be knighted is based on the monumental victories over Wladimir Klitschko in Germany and Deontay Wilder in the United States. But Chisora, who now has 13 defeats, predictably offered no challenge for Fury, who danced around the ring and battered his opponent with ease.
But Usyk, the holder of IBF, IBO, WBO and WBA belts, is set to prove a far tougher test for Fury, who plans for a busy 2023. Fury launched a tirade of abuse as he came face-to-face with the Ukrainian star, who was watching ringside in North London. "Usyk you’re next you little b****," Fury claimed. "You are next. Me and you next. You’re next. Rabbit! P****!
He continued: "I already done one Ukrainian in Klitschko didn’t I? And I'll do you as well, gappy teeth! You ugly little man. Lets get it on b****. You may laugh now but I’ll end this lil sucker. I’ll end you."
