Wayne Rooney questions Roy Keane's defence of Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has questioned Roy Keane's stance on Cristiano Ronaldo's situation at Old Trafford, suggesting that the Irishman would not have backed the player in the dressing room.

The Portuguese star came under criticism after he stormed down the tunnel and refused to come off the bench in the Reds' victory over Tottenham last month. Erik ten Hag opted to drop Ronaldo for one match as punishment for his actions, with the 37-year-old also training alone at Carrington for a period of time.

Ronaldo expressed his desire to leave the club in the summer transfer window, but a move away failed to materialise. He has endured a difficult campaign so far and has registered just three goals in 16 appearances.
