Waymo Is Bringing Driverless Rides To Las Vegas

Waymo is collecting major U.S. cities like Infinity Stones for its driverless ride hailing service. Nashville, Tennessee was just added a few days ago, joining Denver, Colorado, and San Diego California. Now there's another new city on the list: Las Vegas.

Soon, you'll be able to hail a ride in a Waymo Ojai, the company's Zeekr-built, four-passenger driverless van all throughout Vegas. You can get rides to casinos, major venues like the Sphere or Allegiant Stadium, or your local neighborhood. There are likely geographic restrictions, and Waymos don't always start out going on highways, but we don't know full details yet. And it seems like the city will be helping Waymo expand its capabilities as much as possible.

“The public rollout of Waymo's all-electric autonomous ride-hailing brings technology directly to our municipal streets, helping residents and patrons travel seamlessly between the cultural districts and neighborhood centers," said Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley. "By investing in cleaner, safer urban mobility, we ensure the City of Las Vegas remains an accessible, vibrant, and forward-looking community."

However, Vegas seems like the perfect place for a driverless Waymo. It's a city designed to wow you with big lights and impressive technical achievements. A driverless cab dropping you off at your casino will probably feel very at home in the same city that has what is essential a giant ball stadium made out of customizable screens and a replica Eiffel Tower.

Waymo is wasting no time expanding its operation, and likely won't stop anytime soon. There are plenty more cities on its expansion list, so don't be surprised if you see a Waymo near you soon.
