Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann has revealed that he was 'very close' to joining Manchester United before Martin Dubravka signed on loan from Newcastle.
Bachmann was one of a number of goalkeepers linked with the Red Devils as Erik ten Hag pursued a backup option following Dean Henderson's loan switch to Nottingham Forest.
Eintracht Frankfurt stopper Kevin Trapp previously admitted that he turned down an offer from Man United, and Bachmann has also opened up on his summer of speculation.
“It was very, very, very close. Really very, very close,” Bachmann told Heute via Manchester Evening News.

“In the end, I’m glad things turned out the way they are. The new coach really wanted to keep me. I’m happy, I’m a top performer at Watford now.”
Man United eventually signed Dubravka on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day, after the Slovakian international lost his place as first-choice goalkeeper at Newcastle following the arrival of Nick Pope from Burnley.
Dubravka's only appearance for the Red Devils so far came in a 4-2 victory over Aston Villa in the EFL Cup third round just before the World Cup in November.
Bachmann, meanwhile, has played every minute for Watford in the Championship this term. Only Preston and ex-Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman (11) and Coventry City's Ben Wilson (10) have registered more than Bachmann's nine clean sheets in the second-tier.
