Water pours out of Edinburgh pavement despite resident reporting issue 12 months ago

Scottish Water has confirmed they will investigate after an Edinburgh resident shared a video of water pouring through a pavement near their home.

Video footage, taken on Clerwood Terrace, Corstorphine, on Monday, March 13 shows water streaming out of cracks in the kerb during heavy rain.

The utility company said they were not previously aware of the issue and are now looking into the cause despite concerned locals reporting it 12 months ago on social media.

A resident told Edinburgh Live: "It's been like this for a long time, certainly a year but likely much longer.

"There's clearly something blocked or broken for it to create this water feature when there's rain. Initially it didn't come through the side but through cracks in the pavement.

"Then it looked like perhaps someone had fixed it because there was new tarmac, but now it doesn't look like it was fixed at all.

They added: "The pressure of the water is lifting the tarmac, so it must be quite significant!"

The local had previously flagged the issue to both the City of Edinburgh Council and Scottish Water a year ago on social media but at the time both replied saying it wasn't their problem.

A year on the volume of water spraying out of the pavement from the issue has increased reportedly causing the tarmac to lift.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Scottish Water had not been made aware of this issue until today.

"We will arrange for a team to carry out an inspection of the pipework here to determine whether our asset is causing this issue.”
