Water bottle health warning issued as experts warn they could contain more bacteria than toilet seat

A health warning has been issued over water bottles that experts say contain more bacteria than a toilet seat. Many of us refill water bottles to sip from throughout the day, while we are in the office, on public transport, or at the gym - whether they are regular plastic bottles or reusable bottles designed to be used repeatedly.

While this is good for the environment and for our wallets, it may not be so good for our health to keep using the same bottle day in and day out, as reported by Birmingham Live. Experts have given people some top tips on the risks and on best practices for washing and storing bottles to minimise the hazards.

With all the chic stainless steel flasks and glass bottles on the market - not to mention sporty carrying straps - reusable bottles have become something of a fashion accessory. And trying to hit the NHS-recommended eight glasses of water a day for adults is an excellent idea but your refillable bottle could potentially be harmful to your health.
