Why did second-round pick Jonathan Mingo have to host his question-and-answer session with reporters from the comfort of his car? Well, according to the 22-year-old wide receiver, it was because his father was trying to feed him a big ol’ plate of crawfish when the Carolina Panthers rang his phone.
Nonetheless, it was a beautiful call.
Let’s take a look and listen:
We’re not sure who’s happier—Mingo or Panthers wide receiver coach Shawn Jefferson.
Hey, if it’s Jefferson, it’s for good reason. He’ll be getting his hands on a 6-foot-2, 220-pound freak athlete who can win at any level of the field.
Mingo, as franchise legend Steve Smith Sr. apparently noticed, is one of the most potent pass-catching prospects of this class. His impressive outing from the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine—one where he busted out a 4.46-second 40-yard dash and a 22-rep set on the bench—matches his dominance on tape.
And luckily for him, and for us, he’s as entertaining on tape as he is on the phone.
