Watch as fireball emerges from corner of Buchanan Street building

THIS is the moment workmen caught the explosion of a fire within a building on one of Glasgow's biggest shopping streets.

In the footage given to the Glasgow Times, a well-developed fire can be seen within the building behind Zara on Buchanan Street.

As stunned workmen watch the blaze in action, an explosion forces them to take cover.

You can watch the moment here which contains strong language.

One of the workmen told our reporter: "I just heard a massive bang and then saw the fire, I couldn't believe it."

"I got such a fright it was like a big explosion. There was loads of smoke coming out the building as well. I think it was an electrical fire."

He added: "There was a massive bang and then a huge fire. I think it came from a plant room but that hasn't been confirmed. I hope everyone is safe.

"We were working in the building next door and got evacuated for safety. It all happened really suddenly. We don't know when we will get back to work."

Seven fire engines remained at the scene of the inferno, which kicked off at around 9.40am this morning, until around 11:10pm.

Fire crews say there are no reported casualties.

The blaze appears to be located in the building behind Zara. It is understood that there flats located in the building.

"Operations Control mobilised seven appliances to the city's Buchanan Street, where firefighters were met by a fire within the building's second floor.

"The fire has now been extinguished and three appliances currently remain on scene with crews working to make the area safe.

"There are no reported casualties."
