It was Michigan State’s defense that got the first points on the board for the Spartans in the Jonathan Smith era.
Michigan State was able to strike first in Friday night’s season-opening matchup against Florida Atlantic thanks to a safety. Defensive lineman D’Quan Douse was able to get to the quarterback in the back of the endzone to earn the Spartans a safety and an early 2-0 lead over the Owls.
